For Club Vivid -

Title: Battleflag (42MB)
Artist: Pigeonhed (Lo-Fidelity Allstars Remix)
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Spoilers: S1-S3

Got a revolution behind my eyes, we got to get up and organize.

Your construction
Smells of corruption
I manipulate to recreate
This air to ground saga
Gotta launder my karma

I said hallelujah to the sixteen loyal fans
You'll get down on your muthafuckin' knees
And it's time for your sickness again
Come on and tell me what you need
Tell me what is making you bleed
We got two more minutes and
We gonna cut to what you need

So one of six so tell me
One do you want to live
And one of seven tell me
Is it time for your muthafuckin' ass to give
Tell me is it time to get down on your muthafuckin' knees
Tell me is it time to get down

I'm blown to the maxim
Two hemispheres battlin'
I'm blown to the maxim
Two hemispheres battlin'
Suckin' up, one last breath
Take a drag off of death

Hey Mr. Policeman
Is it time for getting away
Is it time for driving down the mother fuckin' road
And running from your ass today

Now tell me if do you agree
Or tell me if I'm makin' you bleed
I got a few more minutes and
I'm gonna cut to what you need

So one of six so tell me
One do you want to live
And one of seven tell me
Is it time for your muthafuckin' ass to give
Tell me is it time to get down on your muthafuckin' knees
Tell me is it time to get down

Got a revolution behind my eyes
We got to get up and organize
Got a revolution behind my eyes
We got to get up and organize
Got a revolution behind my eyes
We got to get up and organize
You want a revolution behind your eyes
We got to get up and organize

Come on baby tell me
Yes we aim to please

Title: Signal to Noise (37MB)
Artist: Peter Gabriel
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Character: Lee
Spoilers: S1-S3

A new dawn is breaking.

You know the way that things go
When what you fight for starts to fall
And in that fuzzy picture
The writing stands out on the wall
So clearly on the wall

Send out the signals deep and loud

And in this place, can you reassure me
With a touch, a smile – while the cradle's burning
All the while the world is turning to noise
Oh the more that it's surrounding us
The more that it destroys
Turn up the signal
Wipe out the noise

Send out the signals deep and loud

Man I'm losing sound and sight
Of all those who can tell me wrong from right
When all things beautiful and bright
Sink in the night

Yet there's still something in my heart
That can find a way
To make a start
To turn up the signal
Wipe out the noise

Wipe out the noise
Wipe out the noise
You know that's it
You know that's it
Receive and transmit
Receive and transmit
Receive and transmit
You know that's it
You know that's it
Receive and transmit
You know that's it
You know that's it
Receive and transmit

For the Challenge show (the theme was faith) -

Title: Martina (15MB)
Artist: Meryn Cadell
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Character: Veronica
Spoilers: S1-S3

Knock on wood.

Pump, pump, blow the dump the steaming sewers
Take the chance that only chancy chicks would take
And cake walk home with icy brakes and spiky heels and clicks they make
And walk through your cold neighborhood but don't get raped
Knock on wood

Martina hobbled home
Breathing in time to the sounds of her footsteps on the pavement
All the houses made hushy, silent sounds because it was a thick night at 3AM
Nobody was around
That's the worst time a part of her said

But most of her just said
Vup tup, vup tup, vup tup, to her swinging legs

Pump, pump, blow the dump the steaming sewers
Take the chance that only chancy chicks would take
And cake walk home with icy brakes and spiky heels and clicks they make
And walk through your cold neighborhood but don't get raped
Knock on wood

For the Nearly New show -

Title: Sugar (36MB)
Artist: Heather Nova
Fandom: Smallville
Character: Lana
Spoilers: S1-S6

Strapped into something tight, keeping me small.

On the Vermont Transit Bus I leaned my arm into a little chink of sun
Going somewhere older than I was
Strapped into something tight, keeping me small
I dug into you like rock climbing
Too scared of coming down
Too scared of going up
Too scared of rockface

I should've split my sides or spilled my guts or hit you or something
But I was good
And your father's little pancakes so round and perfect
And me sitting up too straight, laughing in wrong places
Kissing you, kissing up, kissing too soon

Ooh-ooh, when the cock crows
When the morning comes where will I go
Ooh-ooh, when the cock crows
When the love is gone where will I go

And when you got me pregnant I stopped the party
And I stopped the typewriter
And I stopped your dumb ball game in the red barn
And I stopped your father and bled instead

And I felt the lie
Something sticky on the inside
A bitter wind in my throat
Stopping me wanting
In my stomach, in my head, and you said

Sugar sugar, you couldn't come (come)
Sugar sugar, without your mother (mother)
Sugar sugar, you couldn't taste it
Sugar sugar, in my throat

Ooh-ooh, when the cock crows
When the morning comes where will I go
Ooh-ooh, when the cock crows
When the love is gone where will I go

A big thank you goes out to [info]talitha78, [info]paraka, [info]paddies, and [info]nightchik for having looked over one or more of my VVC vids in advance and having given me feedback and encouragement.

In other fannish news, I recently signed up for IJ, GJ, and JF accounts under the same username - keewick - but consider them mostly placeholders for now. So if and when fandom moves for good, I'll see you there.

I love that song and it just goes really well with all the SGA scenes you've chosen. Well done.

I loved your vids. I thought they were all extremely well-executed, but what got me was the subject matter you are covering. I see you exploring the topics I find most motivating: moral complexity, feminism, and celebration/reclamation of women characters, and that makes me so very happy.

I am going to have to rewatch these because after a whole weekend of vidwatching my memories are fuzzy at best, but I wanted to let you know right now that I REALLY liked "Martina" (not least because of Meryn Cadell -- I knew the song and was REALLY excited to see it paired with VMars) and "Sugar."

I love Veronica Mars, and I think this vid may do a better job of exploring the implications of Veronica's experiences with rape than the show itself did. And the way you edited with those heel clicks -- yikes. I got a sympathetic adrenalin rush just watching this one.

I don't know Smallville at all, but I've gathered that Lana is, er, not especially beloved among the fans I know, so I really had no expectations for the vid at all; but this vid blew me away with its presentation of the character as somebody who is vulnerable and dismissed but ultimately much more resilient than she looks, maybe more resilient than she knew she could be. The simultaneous delicacy and ferocity of the song are terrific, and wow, whatever else one may say about Smallville, it sure is pretty -- and you put both of those things together in a way that I found absolutely compelling.

I'm so glad that I got to see these on a big screen, and that I'll get to rewatch them now. Yay!

I downloaded the BSG and SGA ones and thought they were both fantastic. Especially the SGA one, because I've been loving that song ever since QAF's 3x11 and I love what you did with it. The whole vid was bursting with energy and glee!

I did not get to see "Sugar" on the big screen, alas. But I have it on my DVD set, and I'm greatly looking forward to seeing it on my TV screen if nothing else. And I will rec, rec, rec it soon, but first I have to recoup some energy. So sleepy.... *HUGS*

Wow! Those are all really impressive. I love the SGA vid - it's one of the best I've seen, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. "Martina" is really creepy and powerful, and I love that you focused on that aspect of VM, because I think it's something that really cries out for discussion. I haven't always been crazy about Lana on Smallville, but in a way, I almost prefer vids that focus on characters I don't already love because it challenges me to see their side of the story, and I thought "Sugar" was a great example of that. And finally, "Signal to Noise" was more than I could absorb in one viewing, but I love how much is going on there, how well it works from Lee's POV, and what a great job you did with a challenging song. I'll have to watch that one again.

To sum up: that is a whole lot of awesome!

I cannot stop watching "Martina". It's everything about the treatment of Veronica's rape the show was unwilling to face wrapped up in one brilliant vid. The cuts are perfect - the contrast between Veronica showering in ATTtD to hugging Dick at that party, Veronica's over the top dancing, the usage of "I am God" - wow. And oh my goodness, the music. The power of the actual words being spoken over the clips being used and the relentless clicking of heels - gah. Creepy and disturbing and incredibly powerful.

The first one of yours I watched was Sugar. My god - I was so amazed. I've never liked Lana in the show and yet here you've shown her in a completely different light, one that made me actually feel for her, and that's no mean feat! Editing wise, I loved the way you used the source motion. The bridge starting at 1:47 was wonderful because it suddenly brought back the fact that this is a sci-fi show and there's just this brilliant burst of energy there. Wonderful!

I am not overly familiar with VM but I know the rough background of season 1. Martina creeped me out so much and even from my non-source-knowing territory I can feel just how powerful it is.

What I really liked about Signal to Noise is how much it reaches beyond the character. It takes personal relationships and projects it onto a much larger scale, of race and politics and religion, and then brings it back to the character and asks him what this world means to him.

And of course your editing is just brilliant throughout. What a wonderful batch of vids - I hope you are really proud, because they're certainly are works to be proud of!

Someone on my flist IMed me to recommend the VMars vid, and honestly, the first time I couldn't figure out the thesis of the vid. But I kept thinking about it, and I went back and watched it several times, and. Wow. The pieces I couldn't quite fit in the first time I watched really added to the growing sense of Veronica losing her sense of self-preservation and the show losing its center of Veronica as someone who only took CALCULATED risks.

I love how much this vid stays with you. And I love what you're saying with it.

I just downloaded your VM vid, and holy wow, I'm so glad I did.

This is incredible. Sharp and tight and focused -- so very Veronica, in so many ways. This showcases the show's noir qualities beautifully, and Veronica's bravery and vulnerability all wrapped into one. (You even make the rape storyline in S3 -- not my favorite part of the show by a long shot -- work for me, in retrospect.)

This is gorgeous. Thank you.

I've downloaded "Signal to Noise" and "Sugar" to watch as well, but it's "Martina" I wanted to comment on first. It's brilliantly done -- with hard-hitting, powerful impact that had me nodding as I watched it.

It took me fully ten seconds to realize I was nodding in time with the heels clicking and the scenes intercutting. Very, very well done.

Kudos to you for making something so sharp and edgy and visually compelling. Thank you for doing so, and for sharing it.
